Deputy commissioner Kohima, W. Honje Konyak said clean electoral roll (e-roll) was the pre-requisite factor for clean election in the forthcoming general state election.

He said this during a discussion hour with various organizations on SVEEP (systematic voters’ education and electoral participation) for Kohima district on Wednesday at Kohima DC conference hall.

Honje said registering all genuine voters in the state was top priority and mandatory in the on-going photo e-roll campaign.

He said in Kohima district, so far the turn up for e-roll registration was around 70% and appealed to the citizens to enroll themselves, without which no one would be allowed to cast their vote.

He informed that ECI has directed the state to rectify the election code of conduct and strictly adhere to clean and fair election. He lauded the NGOs and Churches of the state for actively involving for clean and fair election and suggested tying-up with the village council for more effective operation.

He said all bogus, death, double entry, wrong age and information would be deleted during this campaign and requested Church leaders to create awareness among its members.

It may be mentioned that e-roll is eligible to all citizens of India (excluding unsound mind) and who has attained 18 years of age on the 1st day of January 2013.

Registration is on and will close 10 days before last date of nomination announced by the commission. Any person can check his/her voter’s list if included by logging on to www.ceonagaland.nic.in.

The discussion took hours with the representatives of different organizations like NBCC, AYO, Rengma church leaders, SBI, college BLO, church leaders’, district administrators and others who attended the meeting.
