In his address, the governor lauded the state government’s initiatives in introducing the Governor’s award in 2004 and said awardees were a class of themselves.  “A Naga wherever will remain a Naga,” said the governor while congratulating the recipients of the award. He reminded them that their predecessors had carried the torch and had contributed so much for the state.

“For those young people who have the talent should pursue to the national and international level,” he said and assured all possible support from the state government. Rio also expressed hope that award and recognition would motivate the recipients as well as the people of the state.

“May be we don’t have much history or monuments to be proud of but if the society is vibrant we can not only achieve many things but also be proud of before the world,” said Rio. Rio further regretted that there was no one selected for the award in the field of Art this year. However, Rio expressed hope that there would be more competent next year.

Earlier, the Nagaland Chamber Choir and Mokokchung Chancel Choir, both of which member were the recipient of the Governor’s award, enthralled the ceremony with their music.
